Framed Original - Northern Spotted Owl

CA$160.00

Frame Dimensions: 12.25” x 10.25” x 0.75”

The Northern Spotted Owl in particular is found (in Canada) in the southwestern corner of British Columbia and although there are populations in the U.S., it is estimated that less than a dozen owls remain in the B.C. wild. These birds are non-migratory. They remain in their old growth forest habitat (trees 200+ years old- had to be saplings in the year 1816) their entire lives and serve as an indicator species. This means that they reflect the health of their habitat. Old growth forests are important to the Earth's ecosystem. They support valuable biodiversity (animals and organisms unique to their environment) and studies have shown that old growth (ancient) trees actually filter more air than younger trees do. Unfortunately with the number of spotted owls still in decline due to habitat loss, we may not only be at risk of losing a magnificent bird but it will mean we will be at an even closer risk to losing our old growth forests as well.
